WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers Dev Team Reportedly Dissolved

In a new report, it has been claimed that WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers’ development team at Leenzee has been disbanded following the departure of the game’s director. It was mentioned in recent coverage that Xia Siyuan, producer and director at Leenzee, was fired, moving away from the studio and setting up a new project elsewhere.

After Siyuan’s departure, the remainder of the team was reportedly offered reassignment, but they declined, leading the group to a place of dissolution. This is apparently why WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers hasn’t received a major update in several months.

Fallen Feathers Collapses as Team Reportedly Vanishes

In a report first published by Gamersky.com, it was claimed that Xia Siyuan was fired from Leenzee before the Chinese New Year, going on to open a new company in just a few weeks. The report stated that the development team left behind refused to work on something new, and ‘many employees’ were laid off.

This was then picked up by Save Point Gaming, which explained that attempts to reach Leenzee for comment were unfruitful thus far.

Per the report:

Xia Siyuan is said to have left the Wuchang: Fallen Feathers project and formed a new studio. Second, remaining developers were reportedly offered reassignment into outsourcing or support work tied to other projects. Third, after the staff declined that pivot, the development group was allegedly dissolved, with many employees moved into a transitional holding unit ahead of redistribution.

Last July, we reviewed WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, giving the game a solid rating and exploring many of the title’s positive elements:

It’s quite clear Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a first-time effort. It plays it safe where a Souls game is concerned. If this is your first Souls game, it offers a gritty challenge and more than lives up to its ‘Soulslike’ name. Bosses take up upward of half an hour to an hour plus. The combat’s great, and the sound and environmental art sparkles.

WUCHANG was deemed a success on several fronts, but given the state of the studio, it might end up as a one-and-done title that we never revisit.
