In Resident Evil Requiem, concept art depicts Leon Kennedy wearing a wedding band. But just who is he married to? The game’s director isn’t ready to say just yet.
Resident Evil Requiem has captivated audiences worldwide. It’s become the fastest-selling game in the franchise and one of the best-rated games of the year so far.
That’s due in no small part to the inclusion of Leon Kennedy, the fan-favorite RE protagonist, who was one of the main characters in this year’s release and had a literal ax to grind. Still, it appears he also had a major reason to fight, a loving partner to go home to.
The Answer Will Become Clear One Day, Says Resident Evil Requiem Director
Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi told Eurogamer that one day the answer would become clear, but they wanted the audience to know, in the game’s final scene, that Leon did have a place to go home. The director also says he hopes audiences imagine Leon being at peace at home
“Leon is a man who says very little about the things that truly matter, but he would sacrifice himself without a second thought to save a life right in front of him. So what does his ring signify? Resolve? Or a vow?
“He may never voice the answer himself, but for now, after finishing a long battle, he has a ‘place to go home to’. Isn’t that enough?”
In the lead-up to the game’s release, Nakanishi spoke about the importance of the audience recognizing Leon’s changed demeanor. He was more aggressive in this release, and it was important to convey that. It also appears important to convey that there was hope in Leon’s life.
