How to Make, Move & Destroy Large Boulder Rocks in Pokémon Pokopia

Pokémon Pokopia is full of objects to gather, craft, and build, but while some are fairly obvious to understand, others, like Large Boulder Rocks, can be difficult to navigate.

While Pokopia is freely customisable, including modular builds and teraforming, there are some restrictions. Among them are the issues with Large Boulders, which, initially at least, won’t allow you to do much, other than create Habitats around them.

If you’re looking to make Large Boulders, move them, or destroy them in Pokopia, Insider Gaming has all the details.

Large Boulder Rocks cannot be crafted in Pokopia. Instead, you need to use the 3D Printer inside the Pokémon Center if you want to add your own to an area.

For this to be an option, you must have rebuilt the Pokémon Center in at least one area of the map. Without a constructed Pokémon Center, you won’t be able to access the 3D Printer.

To use the 3D Printer, you need to take a photo of the item you want to duplicate. However, it’s quite that simple as there are additional steps, which are outlined below.

  1. Open the camera by pressing ‘-‘ on your Nintendo Switch controller.
  2. Press the ‘Y’ button to enter reference photo mode.
  3. Take a picture of a Large Boulder Rock, which will be labelled while viewing through the camera.
  4. Return to the Pokémon Center and interact with the 3D Printer.
  5. Select the Large Boulder Rock from your collection of reference photos.
  6. Exchange the required amount of Pokémetal to receive the Large Boulder Rock.

Once in your inventory, the Large Boulder Rock can be placed like any other decoration item. However, once put down, it cannot be picked up again.

How to Move Large Boulder Rocks in Pokopia

There are two ways to move Large Boulder Rocks in Pokopia, although both have some significant caveats.

Once you find Machoke in Rocky Ridges and learn Strength, you can move Large Boulder Rocks by holding down the ‘A’ button and holding a specific direction. However, this doesn’t allow for free movement, and you will find limitations in the exact placement of Large Boulder Rocks.

The second option is by using the Magnemite Transform ability and utilizing Magnet Rise. This allows for more delicate controls when placing objects, including hover in place options, but you won’t get this ability until very late on.

The Magnet Rise ability is learned in the Pokopia post-game once you complete the Team Initiation Challenge in its entirety.

How to Destroy Large Boulder Rocks in Pokopia

Large Boulder Rocks in Pokopia cannot be destroyed using the basic Rock Smash. Instead, upgrades are required for your Ditto.

Once you arrive in Rocky Ridges and save Chef Dente, you will learn to cook. Among the basic recipes you learn are burgers, which provide boosts to the Rock Smash ability for a limited time when eaten.

With the upgraded Rock Smash ability, you can destroy stronger blocks like those containing Iron and Gold Ore. Additionally, you can destroy Large Boulder Rocks and Lava Rocks.

Unlike many other items in the environment, you won’t receive a Large Boulder Rock when you use Rock Smash to remove the item. Instead, you will receive a handful of Stones.
