Sales data for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories has been revealed as Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, took action to stop a sandwich shop from naming itself Vice City Subs.
On February 13, 2026, Take-Two Interactive filed an opposition to a trademark for Vice City Subs with the USPTO. The latter would have become a sandwich shop. In the opposition letter, Take-Two tout the success of the Grand Theft Auto brand as a whole, noting that GTA 5 grossed over 1 billion dollars in retail sales in just 3 days after its release back in September 2013.
GTA Vice City Stories Sold Over 7 Million Copies Globally
The Vice City games are also widely regarded as immensely popular. The PlayStation 2 release of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is noted as having sold dozens of millions of copies worldwide, 17.5 million by 2008. However, the news concerns an updated sales figure for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, a PlayStation Portable spin-off of the aforementioned PS2 game.
The filing notes that Vice City Stories, first released in 2006, has sold over 7 million copies worldwide. Back in 2008, Take-Two had listed the game as selling 4.5 million copies. This means that the game has sold at least 2.5 million copies in the last 18 years.
The Future of GTA Heads Back to Vice City
As mentioned above, Grand Theft Auto 5 was released nearly 13 years ago in September 2013. Thankfully, the next mainline GTA game is on the way. Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be released in November 2026. The game has been delayed numerous times, was once planned for 2025, and, before the most recent delay, was scheduled for May 2026.
