Is Hunk In Resident Evil Requiem?

Whereas the mainstream is betrothed to the likes of Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, Ada Wong, and Jill Valentine in Resident Evil, it’s the B and C-tier characters that are loved by long-term fans. There might be no finer example than Hunk, and his Resident Evil Requiem status is a big question.

Hunk might sound like a big brute, but he’s well-trained and deadly, and doesn’t feature prominently throughout the franchise. He has a few game credits to his name, but his screen time is limited to vital minutes. A certain event in Resident Evil Requiem has everyone wondering if Hunk has added another appearance to his resume.

*Potential spoilers ahead, be warned.*

Does Hunk Appear In Resident Evil Requiem?

It’s not explicitly stated that Hunk appears in Resident Evil Requiem, however, it’s implied that the Elite Commander Leon has a 1v1 duel with is Hunk himself.

When you’re in the Ark near the end of Resident Evil 9, Leon walks into a long corridor, and a figure emerges from the automatic doors on the opposite end of the tunnel.

The character never full reveals themself, but they’re extraordinarily confident in their ability to take our Leon, and proclaim “We finally meet,” before the fight begins—suggesting there is a history there.

Additionally, the character has an outfit and mask that looks suspiciously like Hunk’s mask designs from previous Resident Evil games. Until a Capcom developer finally gives acknowledgement that the Commander was Hunk, we can only guess.

But in Insider Gaming’s humble opinion, this was indeed the legendary soldier, Hunk.

Does Hunk Die In Resident Evil Requiem?

There’s just as much mystery about if Hunk / the Commando dies in Resident Evil 9 because while Leon Kennedy does appear to eliminate the age-old soldier, his body disappears after the boss fight.

Leon calls Hunk a ‘tough b*astard,’ and you leave the room to carry on your mission. What you might not know is if you come back to the room, Hunk’s body has suddenly vanished.

Leaving three possibilities:

  • Capcom didn’t think anyone would come back to check for Hunk, and programmed his body to disappear.
  • In canon, another employee came along and removed his dead body.
  • Hunk didn’t actually die, and escaped.

It’s a lot more fun to consider the third possibility as the actual answer. So we’ll go with that, and say Hunk isn’t dead, leaving the door open for at least one more appearance in future games.

Is Insider Gaming getting it all wrong? Was it not Hunk? Or was it Hunk, and he is dead? It’s all very subjective right now, so tell us what you think via the Insider Gaming Discord.
