Marathon is finally here, and it comes first in the form of the Server Slam Playtest. It’s a means for players on all platforms to give the game a go before it officially releases, though it also serves as a means for Bungie to stress-test the servers before launch.
As expected with a beta, there is a collection of bugs and glitches that players are running into, but perhaps the most prevalent is the Marathon Black Screen Bug. It seems to be catching everyone off guard, but what exactly is it, and how can you fix it?

What Is The Marathon Black Screen Bug?
The Marathon bug that fans are running into is pretty self-explanatory: fans are reporting that they’re left in a black screen for prolonged periods of time, with some reporting it lasting up to a minute in some instances.
It seems like this can happen in numerous instances of the game, including but not limited to:
- Matchmaking
- Loading into a game
- Player death in-match
- Ending a game
It’s incredibly disruptive, and it’s led plenty of fans to worry that their game has crashed. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem to be that serious. No cause has been officially confirmed, but it appears to be due to the fact that the servers are overwhelmed this early into the Server Slam Playtest.

How To Fix The Marathon Black Screen Bug
As things stand, there isn’t a direct way to fix the black screen bug in Marathon. Instead, you’ll simply just have to wait it out.
That’s bound to be a frustrating answer for many of you out there, but unfortunately, issues like these are prone to popping up during a beta, and that’s essentially what the Server Slam Playtest is.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom, as now that Bungie are bound to be well aware of the issue, it should hopefully be resolved in the near future; if not during the Server Slam Playtest, then hopefully by the time the official launch rolls around.
