Changing a successful formula would be a bold call for any developer or publisher. With Crimson Desert coming off the back of the beloved Black Desert Online, a genre shift would be a big call indeed.
Multiplayer was at the heart of Black Desert Online. The MMO was lauded for its worldwide functionality, as it created a connected and cohesive world. Crimson Desert goes in a slightly different direction this time around, so let’s explore the new game’s genre.
Is Crimson Desert An MMO?

Crimson Desert is not an MMO, meaning it’s changing from the strategy that made Black Desert Online such a success.
For whatever reason, Pearly Abyss decided it didn’t want to go down the same road as Black Desert Online. This is why Crimson Desert is not an MMO, and if you’re looking for that interconnected online experience similar to the first game, you’re going to be out of luck.
Is Crimson Desert Single-Player?
We can confirm that Crimson Desert is a single-player game, removing the MMO and multiplayer elements from its predecessor.
Sometimes, you have to decide if you want to carry on doing what you’re doing, knowing that it will probably work, or deviate and risk it all. That’s seemingly what Pearl Abyss is doing with Crimson Desert.

Will Crimson Desert Get Multiplayer or Co-op?

It’s been confirmed that Crimson Desert will refrain from adding any multiplayer whatsoever, and the RPG’s PR Lead has emphatically shut down this possibility.
Will Power has been on a PR journey everywhere to promote Crimson Desert. He’s doing a great job, answering all manner of questions about the game, the new mechanics, and how it’s looking to differentiate from Black Desert Online.

In a YouTube interview with Luke Stephens LIVE, Power was asked: “Is there going to be multiplayer?” To which Power had a blunt, one-word response:
“No.”
The conversations swiftly moved on, and it put an immediate stop to long-standing rumors that Crimson Desert would eventually add multiplayer or co-op after launch.
So there you have it. No multiplayer component is present at launch, it won’t be an MMO, and nothing of the sort is coming after launch. How do you feel about this? Will it stop you from buying the game? Let us know through the Insider Gaming Discord.

Good. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen a game that looks interesting, and then when you look into it, it’s another bloody MMO. Gaming rags really need to put that shit in the titles so we don’t waste our time.
Wish they would’ve made the campaign co-op. Would be awesome to play it with a friend. Imagine riding dragons together 😍
