Overwatch has seen plenty of changes amid the yearly reset. From releasing five new characters at once to dropping the “2” from the name, it’s been a busy period for the game, but there’s still the competitive reset to consider, too.
Every year, there’s a reset in Overwatch, and with it comes a new Weapon Variant. This year, it’s the Crimson Wolf, a Talon-red themed skin, and everyone wants to get their hands on it.
However, Blizzard doesn’t make it easy to understand, and there’s a lot of confusion surrounding how it’s unlocked. But worry not, Insider Gaming is here clear the air.
How To Unlock Crimson Wolf In Overwatch

To unlock the Crimson Wolf Weapon Variant in Overwatch, you’ll need to spend 3,000 Competitive Points per character.
Overwatch features a variety of currencies, and they can get confusing, especially for newer players. The Competitive Points have two currency variants of their own, with Legacy Competitive Points also existing.
However, these are essentially expired Competitive Points, as the original currency is wiped alongside the yearly reset. Therefore, you’ll want to obtain the Crimson Wolf before February 2027, as that’s when the next yearly reset is due.
How To Earn Competitive Points In Overwatch
To earn Competitive Points in Overwatch, you’ll need to play in the Competitive game mode.
You’ll earn Competitive Points by these rules:
- 10 Competitive Points for a win
- 5 Competitive Points for a draw
- 20 Competitive Points for a Stadium Win
- Bonus Competitive Points for filling the progression bar by playing matches in those two modes.
With that in mind, you’d theoretically need to win around 300 Competitive matches (disregarding draws and bonus points, of course) to earn the Crimson Wolf Weapon Variant—and that’s just for one character.
It’s a hefty grind, that’s for sure, but it’s one that’s best done casually as you grind out ranked each Season. If you play solely for that skin, you’re bound to lose your mind.
