Terraria, a 15-year-old ‘Minecraft competitor’, has just skyrocketed up the Steam charts to a spot near the top, and it’s all thanks to the game’s most recent update. On January 27, Terraria’s 1.4.5 update, dubbed ‘Bigger and Boulder’, was released, and it has brought players flooding back to the game.
On Steam, a 24-hour peak player count of more than 224,000 users was recorded, a figure that was last seen way back in May 2020 when the last major update was released. Before this, the last peak came in October 2022 when 115,000 concurrent players were enjoying Terraria.
Terraria’s 1.4.5 Update is Making Waves
The Bigger and Boulder update is almost a tribute to Terraria’s 15th anniversary, which was a sentiment professed in a recent release documenting the 1.4.5 patch notes.
For the quickest solution possible for what’s available in this long-awaited update, here’s a simple trailer:
Terraria received a new crafting interface and fresh mechanics with the Bigger and Bolder update, as well as several inventory management improvements.
Re-Logic also added a new spectator feature, allowing users who succumb in multiplayer matches to watch other players as they wait for the respawn timer to tick down. Additionally, housing management has been improved.
One of the most exciting elements in the Bigger and Boulder update is the new world seed menu, which allows for deeper special seed combinations and more diversity in new worlds.
The game also has stacks of new secrets to discover, a Dead Cells content crossover, a Palworld collaboration, fresh blocks in the repository, and atmosphere changes, including updates to most of the game’s sprites.
The full Bigger and Boulder patch notes can be pored through on Steam, but there’s a lot to digest!
