In a new Ubisoft press release detailing a major organization restructuring and financial update, the future of the company and the several ‘creative houses’ that sit under it was shared. It was a few months back that a strategic split was outlined at Ubisoft, and ‘Vantage Studios’ was set up, but this latest release shares a bold promise from that venture.
The big headline here is that Ubisoft intends for Vantage Studios, co-led by Charlie Guillemot, to drive the gaming titan’s biggest franchises to new heights, even amid a downturn that has just seen more layoffs and cancellations surface.
Scaling Beyond All Recognition
The new press release published by Ubisoft isn’t all doom and gloom, but there’s a fair bit of it wrapped up in the seven pages of the document. For instance, it was confirmed that the Prince of Persia remake is officially cancelled, which nobody saw coming.
Midway through the document, the talk turned to the Creative House ecosystem that sits under the wider Ubisoft umbrella. There are five Creative Houses at Ubisoft, each positioned for a different purpose. The first to be revealed was Vantage Studios, which has the privilege of leading the development of the company’s biggest franchises:
- Assassin’s Creed
- Far Cry
- Rainbow Six
The mission statement for Vantage Studios was detailed:
(Vantage Studios is) focused on scaling and extending Ubisoft’s largest andestablished franchises to turn them into annual billionaire brands.
That’s a bold and very ambitious endeavour. Ubisoft wants these franchises to make a billion dollars a year.
To put that into perspective, it was suggested in 2024 that, since launching in 2016, Rainbow Six Siege had generated approximately $3.8 billion in revenue. Estimates suggest that Assassin’s Creed has earned Ubisoft just north of $4 billion in the last ten years.
However, there’s ambiguity at play here.
Does Ubisoft mean brands that make a billion dollars annually? Or does the company mean making them brands worth a billion dollars that release new iterations annually?
The latter certainly feels more of an easy accomplishment, but it’s tough to see certain franchises hitting that mark. For instance, Far Cry, which hasn’t seen a new game since 2021, and that release just wasn’t the commercial hit Ubisoft might have hoped for.

What do you think of the Black Flag Remake? Still coming in March?
I’ll be surprised if Ubisoft survives into 2027. They haven’t been relevant in over a decade and every time a story crops up about them, they just seem to be more and more in the hole. I would love to see a competent studio take over their Tom Clancy titles, but nothing else will be missed.
Won’t be billion dollar brands they are old and outdated. Should have ended years ago
