Creators of Beloved Fallout Mod Are Not Interested in Remaster Projects

For the uninformed, the Tale of Two Wastelands mod is a monumental thing that fuses Fallout 3 with Fallout: New Vegas, allowing you to move seamlessly between the two unique maps and cross over content in epic fashion. It’s more than a decade old and invites users to take a train from Fallout 3 to the Mojave Wasteland in New Vegas – and back again.

It’s one of the most iconic and beloved Fallout mods ever made, but the creators have insisted that, should Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters eventually surface, they’re not interested in doing it all over again.

Tale of Two Wastelands Won’t Return for Remasters

Tale of Two Wastelands was first released more than ten years ago, and it still stands firm today as one of the most ambitious Fallout mods ever created. Far from being a simple thing that enables one game’s map in another, it has evolved over the years with balances, fixes, changes, and stacks of unique considerations that make it almost a standalone game.

It takes the new features added to 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas and ports them into Fallout 3 (2008), modernizing the earlier game. It effectively allows both games to be played in a single run with the same character, as though you’re exploring this gargantuan title that crosses an entire post-apocalyptic nation.

Everyone in the Fallout space knows about the highly anticipated Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remaster projects, which sit on the horizon, tantalizing fans of the franchise worldwide. We have seen nothing of either just yet, but an announcement feels close enough to taste.

With that potential emerging, the Tale of Two Wastelands mod has come up in discussion again.

Will we see Tale of Two Wastelands recreated for the remastered games?

Unfortunately, the team behind the TTW mod has shut that idea down quite firmly.

In the official Discord server for the mod, ‘Kazopert’, a legendary mod creator and one of the driving minds behind Tale of Two Wastelands, gave the following update:

For anyone wondering, if 3 and NV get the remaster treatment, the team will NOT be pursuing this for TTW. It would be a mammoth effort and would require an entire rebuild of the project.

(Thanks to GameSpark for the spot)

That effectively shuts down any hopes of once again crossing from the DC Wasteland to the Mojave, bridging the gap between Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

Were you hopeful that a project like this would connect the two remasters? Let us know your thoughts on the Insider Gaming Discord server.
