Hytale is finally available after years of waiting, and there is a long list of resources to find and utilise, including Light Hide, and Insider Gaming has all the crucial details on where to find it.
Light Hide in Hytale is a resource that is required very early on in the game, and gathering enough to make some basic items is one of the first tasks you will face, so here’s all the important information to help you get started on the right foot.
Best Location to Find Light Hide in Hytale

There isn’t necessarily a definitive location to find Light Hide in Hytale, though the best approach is to hunt in areas with a large amount of wild animals, like the woods near where you start in the world.
Light Hide in Hytale is a material obtained by killing wild animals, though not every animal you encounter drops the material as a resource.
In general, smaller-sized animals are the source for Light Hide in Hytale, with both Rabbits and Chickens dropping the material when killed. Eliminating Wild Boar and Rats, the latter of which are often found while you’re mining, also drops Light Hide as a resource. However, not all animals of this size will drop it.
However, smaller animals like Chicks and Mice will not drop Light Hide when defeated, nor will an animal like the Fox, so it’s best to avoid them unless you are also on the hunt for food. Otherwise, hostile mobs can quickly deplete your health, especially when you’re just getting started in the world.
Hytale describes Light Hide as coming from ‘common prey’, which may help you to work out which animals provide the resource when defeated. In the end, though, trial and error can always come in handy.
What Does Light Hide do in Hytale?
Light Hide is a crafting material in Hytale that can be used to create items, weapons, and furniture, but it can also be used to create Leather.
When placed on a Tanning Rack, Light Hide is turned into Light Leather, which in turn is used to craft higher-tier items and is, overall, a better resource to have at your disposal.
However, given that Light Hide can be obtained rather easily, it’s definitely worth keeping an ample supply of the material in your base.
What is Light Hide Used For in Hytale?
The first use of Light Hide you are likely to encounter in Hytale is for a Crude Bedroll, which allows you to set a respawn point anywhere in the world.
Light Hide is also required to build the Tanning Rack, which starts the process of obtaining higher-quality Leather used in other recipes to create better quality weapons, items, and more.
While Light Hide is certainly one of the more basic resources available in Hytale, it will remain important throughout your playthrough, and it’s always helpful to have a handy supply stored at your base.
