Sony and Tencent have settled their Horizon clone lawsuit out of court, and Light of Motiram has been delisted from major platforms.
For those unaware, Sony has been battling Tencent in court over allegations of copying its Horizon video game series since August 2025. The case has had several developments over the past months, with both parties agreeing to extend the hearing dates. It now appears the case has been settled out of court.
Horizon Clone Lawsuit Confidentially Settled By Sony and Tencent
According to a report by The Game Post, a new filing has appeared in court, with both Sony and Tencent asking the court to dismiss the case, on the condition that both parties settle the lawsuit through an agreement. The case will be settled confidentially between the parties, and the lawsuit has been dismissed with prejudice. Additionally, all pending motions have been withdrawn, and Sony and Tencent will bear their own legal costs.
As the settlement is confidential, we do not know the terms of the agreement. However, we do know that the delisting of Light of Motiram might have been one of the points, as it has now been removed from all major storefronts.
There was a lot of back-and-forth on this case before they agreed to settle. Sony called Light of Motiram a “blatant knockoff” title and Tencent’s defense “nonsense“. Tencent had also clapped back several times, stating that “fame doesn’t create a trademark.” In the latest development, Tencent agreed to pause Light of Motiram’s promotion and public testing and not to prepone the release date. Now, we do not know what the future holds for this title.
