How to Evolve Hisuain Qwilfish Into Overqwil in Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension

A host of Pokémon have made a return in Pokémon Legends: Z-A in the Mega Dimension, including several with unique evolution mechanics, and Hisuain Qwilfish is one of the Pokémon that needs special attention to evolve into Overqwil.

Both forms of Qwilfish are available in the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, though only the Hisuain form is capable of evolving into Overqwil. However, the evolution is not triggered through level-up, with an item, or even through friendship. Instead, it has a unique mechanic.

If you’re looking to evolve a Hisuain Qwilfish into Overqwil, Insider Gaming has all the key details you need to add the Dark/Poison Pokémon to your ranks.

Hisuain Qwilfish has a unique evolution mechanic in Pokémon Legends: Z-A and will only be able to evolve into Overqwil when it has used Barb Barrage 20 times.

The mechanic is similar to the evolution method in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the game where Hisuain Qwilfish made its debut, but differs slightly, as there are no Strong or Agile Styles in battle. Therefore, it only needs to use the move, and you don’t need to worry too much about other things.

Just knowing the move Barb Barrage is not enough for Hisuain Qwilfish to evolve, as it needs to learn the move and hit the attack on 20 occasions.

Fortunately, this can be done relatively easily, as the attack does not need to be used in battle, and using Barb Barrage to clear Mega Crystals across Lumiose City and Hyperspace Lumiose also counts towards the progression. Therefore, it’s easy to evolve Hisuain Qwilfish quickly into Overqwil without having to churn through battles.

An even quicker method is to head to the Justice Dojo in Lumiose City and attack the mannequins dotted around, which won’t be destroyed when hit with a move and can be targeted repeatedly.

It’s worth remembering that Hisuain Qwilfish is the only form of Qwilfish that can evolve into Overqwil, and the standard Johto version has no evolved form. If you’re unsure of the difference, the big giveaway is Hisuiain Qwilfish stands out much more clearly with purple accents.
