How to Get Mega Ampharos in Pokémon Legends: Z-A—Ampharosite Location, Explained

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is headlined by the return of Mega Evolution to the franchise, bringing back fan-favourites alongside a host of new additions, and Mega Ampharos is one of the many members of the returning cast.

Mega Ampharos may go under the radar compared to the other Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but it will likely surge to the top of your wantlist after getting your hands on the guaranteed Shiny Mareep that is available.

It’s understandable to want to get Mega Ampharos as soon as possible after completing the Side Mission that provides a Shiny Mareep, and we’ve got all the details on how to go about it.

Ampharosite can only be unlocked in Pokémon Legends: Z-A through story progression, and there are no shortcuts to get your hands on Mega Ampharos.

A Rogue Mega Ampharos needs to be taken down in Main Mission 23, providing Ampharosite when defeated, which is the only way to obtain the item. Unlike other Mega Evolution Stones, you cannot buy Ampharosite at the Stone Emporium or exchange Mega Shards for it at Quasartico Inc.

You cannot trade Pokémon holding a Mega Stone either, so you won’t be able to fast-track your journey to Mega Ampharos that way, but it’s well worth the wait, as Mega Ampharos is an excellent addition to any team that can be of real assistance well into the endgame, especially given it has access to some Ice and Dragon moves.

How to Defeat Rogue Mega Ampharos in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Rogue Mega Ampharos in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is Level 48 and is a Dragon/Electric Type, giving it weaknesses to Ground, Ice, Dragon, and Fairy.

It has plenty of resistances, however, with the likes of Flying, Steel, Fire, Water, Grass, and Electric not being effective, while Dragon Pokémon are weak against their own type, so it’s not wise to bring a Dragon-type to the fight.

Instead, utilize Ground, Ice, or Fairy-type Pokémon against Rogue Mega Ampharos. Gardevoir is one of the best options, particularly as you can get Mega Gardevoir as soon as you unlock Mega Evolution through the Mystery Gift feature, and Gardevoir can learn Moonblast, the most powerful Fairy move in the game.

Alternative options include Abomasnow, Tyranitar, Froslass, and Garchomp, all of which have Mega Evolution available if you get your hands on the required Mega Stone, and Mega Ampharos shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge to defeat.
