Kalos’ mighty legendary Pokémon make their return in Pokémon Legends: Z-A but, naturally, getting your hands on them, including Yveltal, is not a quick process.
Although it’s Zygarde that receives the majority of the focus in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Yveltal and Xerneas do appear and play a role, with catching them necessary to complete your Pokédex and advance through Mable’s Research Tasks.
If you’ve got Yveltal on your hitlist and want to know how to add it to your team in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, we’ve got all the details.
How to Catch Yveltal in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Yveltal is only available to capture after you complete the main story in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, serving as part of the post-game content with a special mission to complete.
After competing in the Infinite Z-A Royale and returning to Hotel Z to meet your team, L makes another appearance and informs you about the two Legendary Pokémon of the Kalos region who are making their way to Lumiose City. ‘The One That Takes’ Mission is then unlocked, which requires speaking to Grisham at the Nouveau Cafe.
He will accompany you to Quasartico Inc. to meet with Vinnie, who informs you about a machine that has been built that puts you in simulated battles against Rogue Mega Evolution Pokémon—with Mega Victreebell, Mega Hawlucha, and Mega Tyranitar required to take down to test the machine.
Once all three are defeated, the second and final stage of the mission is unlocked.
Yveltal Location in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Yveltal appears on the roof of Galerie de la Lune, home of the shops in the northern part of the city, perfectly placed upon the dome in the middle of the roof.
Make your way to the roof and climb the dome to interact with the mission marker, which summons Yveltal. Then, interact with Yveltal to start your battle against the Legendary Pokémon. Yveltal is a Dark/Flying type, giving it a bunch of weaknesses, including Fairy, Electric, and Ice, that are efficient in taking it down.
Just like Xernas, Yveltal must be caught to complete the mission, and if you fail, you’ll have to redo the battle. Make sure you’re armed with Ultra Balls for this, as one throw should be enough.
