How to Evolve Inkay in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

While there are a variety of ways to get your Pokémon to evolve throughout the history of the games, none are quite like the revolving Pokémon, Inkay. With that said, how do you evolve Inkay in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

Out of the thousands of creatures that have made their presence known throughout the series’ long, successful run, no other Pokémon has an evolution quite like it.

Here is how to evolve Inkay in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

How to Make Inkay Evolve into Malamar in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

To evolve Inkay into Malamar in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you need to have Inkay in your party, raise it above level 30, and then, with your joy-cons attached, physically turn your console upside down, select the Inkay in your party, and then select Evolve.

Like we wait, the method of evolving Inkay into Malamar is very unique compared to any other creature. All of this is a way for Pokémon games to add a unique twist to evolutions, as Inkay is known as the revolving Pokémon, and apparently, it just loves spinning around and being upside down.

This isn’t the only time a Pokémon game has required you to turn your console upside down to evolve Inkay. Ever since the days of the creature’s debut on the Nintendo 3DS, this has been the requirement, even making the jump over Pokémon Go.

Is Malamar Good in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

The evolved form of Inkay in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Malamar, is a decent choice to have in your party for battles, but there are definitely better choices in the game.

The biggest benefit to using Malamar is the Contrary ability, which will make any moves your opponent uses that lower your stats instead raise them. It is also a Psychic/Dark type, so it is completely immune to incoming Psychic attacks from the opponent. It also has a mega evolution in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

However, with an ability that takes so long to set up, Malamar will have issues against Pokémon that hit hard and fast without needing to set up ability changes. Also, never use Malamar against an opponent with Bug typing, as it is super weak against those moves.

Be sure to play around with Malamar after you evolve your Inkay in Pokémon Legends: Z-A and see if you can make it a juggernaut in your party.

Do you think evolving Inkay in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the most fun evolution? Would you like to see other methods similar to this? Let us know in the comments or on the Insider Gaming Discord Server.

Here is where you can find all wild zones in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Also, did you know that shinies will never disappear in the game until you battle them?
