How to Get Mega Greninja in Pokémon Legends: Z-A—Greninjite Location, Explained

Pokémon Legends: Z-A showcases the long-awaited return of Mega Evolution, introducing new forms like Mega Greninja that require a special item, Greninjite, to be unlocked.

Mega Evolution unlocks the most powerful forms of fan-favorite Pokémon and Greninja joins the ranks in Legends: Z-A, alongside the other original Kalos starters and a host of other Pokémon.

While the majority of Mega Evolutions and Mega Stones are unlocked through regular gameplay, Mega Greninja is locked behind a specific means and obtaining Greninjite requires plenty of work, as we’ve detailed here.

Where to Find Greninjite & Get Mega Greninja in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Greninjite in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is only obtainable through competing in Ranked Online battles during Season 1 of the game and reaching Rank K.

Starting October 16 and running until November 5, Greninjite is the main reward for participating in Season 1 of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and the item required to unlock Mega Greninja is not available through any other means—at least initially.

Greninjite is a Season Reward in Season 1 and will be distributed to those who achieve Rank K or higher when the season ends on November 5. Therefore, before that date, it’s impossible to legitimately obtain Mega Greninja.

There will be other opportunities to obtain Greninjite in the future, however, as confirmed by The Pokémon Company.

Will Greninjite be Available Again?

Yes, Pokémon have confirmed that Greninjite will be distributed again after the initial limited-time reward period comes to an end, though no specific details have been shared.

However, it seems that Greninjite may remain exclusively available for those who reach requirements in ranked, as the press release revealing Mega Greninja and other Mega Evolutions for the Kalos starters states that “Mega Stones obtainable as promotion rewards are planned to be redistributed in future seasons.”

On top of that, it’s explicitly specified that Greninjite, Delophoxite, and Chesnaughtite cannot be obtained through regular gameplay.

Further details will be shared in the future, however, and it remains to be seen whether the stance is shifted later in the game’s lifespan, or if Greninjite will be available through other means in the Mega Dimension DLC, or elsewhere.
