How to Get Froakie in Pokémon Legends: Z-A—Froakie Location, Explained

Froakie has hopped back onto the scene for Pokémon Legends: Z-A and is available to add to your ranks through several means, though some can take a while to reach.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A has a new trio of starters, replacing the Kalos trio from X and Y, but the OG’s remain available in the game, though it can take quite a bit of grinding before the doors to obtaining them open fully.

If you’re on the hunt for a Froakie to join your squad, or want to Shiny hunt the Pokémon, we’ve got all the important details.

Like the other Kalos starters in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Froakie is initially available only as a gift Pokémon for completing a specific side quest, but is available early in the story.

Side Mission 8: A Challenge From Froakie provides the first opportunity to get your hands on Froakie, as long as you can beat its records at three parkour courses located around Lumiose City—so get practising your rolling and balancing, as they’re two crucial skills to beat the target time.

The Side Mission unlocks after completing Main Mission 5 and completing the initial three Side Missions in Legends: Z-A for Emma. Once unlocked, speak to Surv in Juane Sector 8, just north of a nearby Pokémon Center.

Where to Catch Froakie in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Froakie becomes available to catch in Pokémon Legends: Z-A later in the main story once Wild Zone 16 becomes available.

Once you reach Rank C in the Z-A Royale, Wild Zone 6 is unlocked, and Froakie can be located within it—though there’s a higher chance to encounter the Pokémon at night, or when it’s raining.

Similar to Fennekin, Froakie is shy and will disappear if it spots you, so sneak up on it and throw a Pokéball from behind for a higher catch chance. If the ball fails to capture Froakie, it will disappear and you will need to try again, so be patient and don’t rush into it.

Wild Froakie, unlike the Pokémon obtained as a gift, can be encountered in its Shiny form, whereas all gift Pokémon in Legends: Z-A are Shiny Locked.
