Escape from Tarkov has finally been added to Steam, after more than eight years as a beta product listed on a proprietary launcher and storefront. This monumental step to bring Escape from Tarkov to more of the masses was celebrated earlier today by Battlestate Games, as the company prepares to launch the game fully in just two months.
This move was touted by Battlestate Games several months ago, and now you can finally wishlist Escape from Tarkov on Steam.
Tarkov is Coming to Steam, But When?
For now, all you can do with Escape from Tarkov on Valve’s Steam platform is wishlist it. There’s no indication of when it’ll hit the platform, but it’ll likely be after the game has hit a 1.0 release state, after November 15.
It was just a few weeks back that the Battlestate Games crew revealed the 1.0 release date for Escape from Tarkov, before making the new version of the game playable at PAX, getting it in the hands of content creators and diehard fans.
I was quick to notice that the game’s description on Steam has a few grammatical and spelling errors, though:
Escape from Tarkov is the original extraction FPS where every raid is a gamble with death. Prep you raid, bleed, endure and fight through ruthless PMC players and Scavs, gain tactical advantage and cling to your loot — only extraction decides if you live or lose it all.
For almost a decade, Escape from Tarkov has only been available through Battlestate Games’ proprietary launcher, which has put some gamers off getting involved—until now. This is a strong step forward for the incredibly popular extraction shooter, but it’s not without concerns.
For instance, Steam has a very lenient refund policy, and Escape from Tarkov is the kind of game that many people would refund if they could. It’s gruelling, not welcoming for newcomers, and plagued by issues, such as intense cheaters ruining the fun of others. This means that Steam’s refund policies might end up being flexed more than Battlestate Games might like.
