BioShock Movie is Based on the First Game, Producer Confirms

The producer of the upcoming BioShock movie has confirmed that it is “definitely” based on the first game; however, the adaptation may not be released for a long time.

The BioShock movie was confirmed several years ago; however, we have yet to receive concrete updates about the upcoming adaptation. We do know that the director of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is attached to it. Moreover, last year, it was revealed that Netflix had lowered the budget for the upcoming adaptation. Now we have finally received some good news, with the adaptation following the first BioShock game.

Work on BioShock Adaptation Begins After the Next Hunger Games Movie

Spotted by VGChartz, during an interview with The Direct, the producer for the BioShock movie, Roy Lee, confirmed that it is based on the first game. Lee stated that “Netflix wants us to keep everything under wraps. But it’s definitely going to be based on the first ‘BioShock’ game”.

When asked about the release date of the BioShock movie, Lee confirmed that the team is currently focused on additional script work. Moreover, Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence is at the lead, and he has already committed to working on the next movie of the Hunger Games franchise. Hence, Lee is waiting for Lawrence to finish his current project, and then they will fully commit to the BioShock movie. Meanwhile, the script work will continue. Considering that the next Hunger Games movie is scheduled to release in 2026, we may not see the BioShock movie for a long time.

The fans of the BioShock franchise will be excited to see that the movie is based on the first game, as this is how they were also introduced to the series. The first game also received critical acclaim for its fantastic narrative, which follows Jack, a survivor of a plane crash, who has been stranded in the middle of the ocean, where he eventually discovers the underwater city of Rapture.

In other news, BioShock’s developers have laid off 30% of the studio. Moreover, the BioShock Remake was reportedly shelved. What are your thoughts on the BioShock movie being based on the first game? Let us know through the official Insider Gaming forums.
