Battlefield 6 Had a Number of Players Playing Below Minimum Specs, Says Technical Director

During a new interview, the technical director for Battlefield 6 revealed that a “substantial number” of players were playing the game on systems that featured the minimum required specs, with several even falling below that requirement.

Battlefield 6 Beta Weekends were a massive success, and some players are still suffering from BF6 withdrawals. Since then, numerous leaks have surfaced online, including gameplay footage of Portal and Operation Firestorm game modes. Now, new details from the developers have been revealed, and it appears that many players have been able to play BF6 within the minimum system requirements.

During an interview with Eurogamer, Christian Buhl, the technical director for Battlefield 6, discussed how the game is being played on systems that were at or around the minimum specifications. Buhl first stated that Battlefield Studios and EA always had lower-end hardware and older systems as a priority. The maps were designed to be “more performant,” and a lot of effort was put into ensuring performance targets were set, which means players would receive the experience the developers were targeting, whether they played on minimum or ultra specs.

Buhl elaborated that minimum spec was one of the most important specs for Battlefield 6, as it “is super important from both a commercial and business perspective.” It ensures that “as many people as possible” can play the game. The developers tested the game on a “wide range of hardware above and below our minimum and recommended specs.” During this time, they were able to figure out what they can hit and what they must hit “from a business perspective”, which is “to capture a wide audience on PC”.

Buhl concluded, stating that a “meaningful percentage” of players were playing BF6 at or around minimum specs. He also revealed that a group existed that played the game on systems with specifications below the minimum requirements. In a statement through PR, the “meaningful percentage” was explained as a “substantial number” of players, but no real number was revealed.

In other news, the Battlefield 6 weapon ‘Free Look‘ mechanic will have YouTubers running wild. Additionally, the upcoming title doesn’t have ray tracing and may not receive it for a long time.
