Doom: The Dark Ages Free Update Adds a New Game Mode

Doom: The Dark Ages’ latest free update introduces the Ripatorium, an endless arena game mode.

ID Software finally released their latest instalment to their beloved series this year with Doom: The Dark Ages. Though it kicked off with a rough launch, the title managed to become the ‘biggest launch‘ in ID Software’s history. It seems the developers are not yet done, as the game has just received a new free content update, which adds a new game mode, free skins, and more.

Doom: The Dark Ages Ripatorium Update is Now Live

Starting with the Ripatorium, Doom: The Dark Ages introduces a new game mode that allows players to set up their own combat encounters across three different arenas. The new mode enables players to craft unique experiences, which can be further customised according to their preferences. Here’s how it works:

  • The new Encounter manager menu allows players to adjust the type and quantity of demons to spawn, set a time limit or enable the Endless mode, and use the respawn counter to add even more customisation.
  • The three arenas are City of Ry’uul, Village of Khalim, and Harbour of Souls.
  • There’s also a jukebox for players to select a music track for their custom encounter.

Moreover, the new update adds a Benchmark mode, which allows players to create a looping playlist sequence of benchmark mode flythroughs. Two new skins have been added: The Quakecon Doom Slayer Skin and The Perfection Doom Slayer Skin. The Quakecon skin can be unlocked by linking your platform to Bethesda.net and playing Doom: The Dark Ages between August 7 and September 1. The Perfection skin can be unlocked by completing all Ripatorium arenas.

Interested readers can check out all the other game updates, improvements, additional game settings, bug fixes and more in the official patch notes.

In other news, a former adult film star was one of the most popular streamers for Doom: The Dark Ages. What are your thoughts on Doom: The Dark Ages’ new game mode? Let us know through the official Insider Gaming forums discussion.
