RedOctane Games has officially launched with the aim of reviving the rhythm game genre, lead by key figures from Guitar Hero and DJ Hero.
The new studio, described as “small but passionate,” has been founded by veterans of the rhythm game genre from the aforementioned titles, alongside “exceptional new-generation developers, creators, and community leaders from the global rhythm gaming scene.”
A PR statement adds that RedOctane Games is “focused solely on advancing the rhythm game genre” by “combining the past with the future.”
RedOctane Games Includes Former Guitar Hero Production Director

Big names confirmed to be involved are Simon Ebejer, the Production Director on several Guitar Hero titles during his time at Neversoft, who then became Studio Head and Vicarious Visions and VP of Operations at Blizzard Entertainment. With the latter, he played an important role in the organization and delivery of Diablo 4.
The RedOctane Games team also includes other creators and developers from Guitar Hero and DJ Hero, which were huge titles over two decades ago. In the years since, the genre has somewhat declined, though RedOctane Games intends to change that.
It was also announced that brothers Charles and Kai Huang, the original founders of the Guitar Hero franchise, will join a special advisory board for the company.
After being in pre-production for several months, full production has now begun on RedOctane Games’ debut rhythm-based title, which is expected to be announced later this year.
