How Long to Beat Mafia: The Old Country? Game Length Explained

A big part of Mafia: The Old Country’s marketing has focused on its generous price point. This has raised questions about the game’s length, with every man and his dog concerned about how much content is included. That’s why I’m here to explain whether the length is a crime or not.

Mafia: The Old Country is looking to get back to its old ways. Mafia 3’s open-world experiment seems to be nothing but that, and The Old Country is more linear and concentrated in its approach. The community also rejoiced at the announcement of the game’s $50 price tag. But we can’t have everything, can we?

A drastically reduced price garnered mixed reactions, with people worried the game won’t be long enough.

Developer Hangar 13 believes Mafia: The Old Country is as long as Mafia 1 and Mafia 2—meaning a normal story run should be around 10-12 hours.

Mafia 3 has broken all expectations because of its open world. Many seem to be anticipating a similar game and style to Mafia 3, and that’s not the case. In an interview with IGN, Hangar 13 president Nick Baynes said to expect a “Mafia 1, Mafia 2 style experience.”

As someone who’s played and finished Mafia 1 and Mafia 2 several times, I can tell you the 10-12-hour region should be the case. It likely has main story missions aplenty, along with some extra bits and bobs to flesh out the experience.

How Long is a Mafia: The Old Country Full Completionist Run?

If we’re using Mafia 1 and Mafia 2 as our barometer for a Mafia: The Old Country completionist run, I would say to reserve about 25 hours or so to see and do everything.

Between Mafia 1 and 2, there are a ton of collectibles sprinkled throughout both games, and many cars you need to track down for trophy purposes and general completionist goals.

Going back to Baynes’ comments for a second: “We got a response from the remake that [the Definitive Edition] was the kind of Mafia game that a lot of players wanted to play.”

All things considered, between missions, side content, and anything else, 25 hours should be about right to see and do everything. If you tick off everything on the checklist, you’ll probably feel like a pure gangster.

Are you happy to see Mafia: The Old Country revert to the linear-focused approach to game design? Or did you enjoy Mafia 3’s open-world style? Let me know your thoughts and feelings via the Insider Gaming forum.
