EA Reiterates Plans For The Sims 4 Multiplayer, The Sims 5 Still Not Happening: “It’s Not a Good Idea”

Any lingering hopes of The Sims 5 being developed have been crushed by EA, as made clear by its intention to keep improving The Sims 4 and adding new content to it—including the long-awaited multiplayer component.

For a while, it seemed like a fifth game was happening, but now The Sims 5 most definitely is not. There were rumors of a Sims 5 open-world map after all. A new interview has revealed that not only is multiplayer development still ongoing, but also why The Sims 5 wouldn’t work now.

The Sims 5 Would Not be “Player Friendly”

A special interview between EA Entertainment president Laura Miele and Variety pulled back the curtain on EA projects from Battlefield 6 to The Sims.

It wasn’t referenced directly, but it’s inferred that The Sims multiplayer is “one of the biggest growth opportunities for Electronic Arts” moving forward, and the team is “hard at work and feverishly developing what this [multiplayer] platform is going to be.”

On one hand, this is great news! Multiplayer is one of the few major features missing from The Sims 4. It will only be in this game, though, and EA has no plans to release The Sims 5.

“What I wouldn’t want to have happen is you to have to start from day zero and start from scratch and give up all of the things that you have created, give up all of the content that you’ve purchased over the years. We put out over 85 content packs over the last 10 years on ‘The Sims 4,’ and so resetting that is not player friendly and not a good idea for our community,” explained Miele.

It’s 11 years and counting since The Sims 4 came out. You’ll have to wait a lot longer for The Sims 5 to ever see the light of day. Do you think there’s any way EA could balance a new Sims release while carrying over your old content? Let us know through the Insider Gaming forum.

There’s more news happening all the time. The PlayStation 6 Console and PS6 handheld specs have reportedly leaked, there’s an update on Battlefield 6 cosmetics and skins, and leaks suggest GTA Online will soon require Age Verification.
