PlayStation is Exploring a Power Saver for Games on the PS5

The PS5’s new update beta announcement mentions a ‘power saver for games’, which enables supported games to run with lower power consumption.

The latest beta update for the PS5 also introduces a brand-new feature for the DualSense and DualSense Edge wireless controllers, allowing for pairing with multiple devices. The other new feature discussed will contribute to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s environmental efforts by reducing power consumption for certain PS5 games.

PS5 Power Saver for Games Will Scale Back Performance

As revealed in the new PlayStation blog post, once this feature is released, players will find a new option called ‘Power Saver’ in the PS5 settings menu. With this feature, the console will be able to scale back performance for supported games, reducing power consumption. When the feature is disabled or the game doesn’t support the feature, performance will not be scaled back, and power consumption will not be reduced either.

Moreover, while the Power Saver is active, VR mode will be unavailable, and certain gameplay features will be limited. Additional details about this PS5 Power Saver feature will be revealed closer to launch, including the supported games and the estimated impact of the feature. The Power Saver comes in as a part of Sony’s Road to Zero environmental plan, which aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040.

In other news, Sony’s ‘coupon settlement‘ with $7.8 million electronic credits was rejected in a class-action lawsuit. Also, Forza Horizon 5 was PlayStation’s best-selling game in 2025. What are your thoughts on the new Power Saver feature for the PS5? Let us know through the official Insider Gaming forums discussion.
