Stardew Valley might be almost a decade old, but it’s full of life and actively shattering records on Steam. The cosy farming title released in February 2016 has been maintained by a solo developer all this time, effortlessly standing strong as one of the most popular games ever made.
Recently, it snatched a record from Portal 2 on Steam, a record that had held firm for 14 years.
Stardew Valley is the Top-Rated Steam Game
Stardew Valley has officially become the top-rated game on Steam, Valve’s PC-based storefront.
In recent days, Stardew Valley managed to creep past Portal 2, securing a score of 8.87 to Portal 2’s 8.85, according to Steam250.com.
It’s a small edge, but it’s an edge nonetheless, and it has ensured Stardew Valley has become the best-rated game on Steam.
This news comes weeks after Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone, Stardew’s solo developer, confirmed that he’s stepping away from the game to focus on a new title, Haunted Chocolatier. Until he’s done with that, Stardew Valley won’t receive any further updates, save for the fan-made mods that have become popular over the years.
Portal 2 previously held the top-rated game record since being released on the platform in 2011. According to Steam250, that’s 5,202 days that Portal 2 has sat atop the chart. With one of the most stunning streaks imaginable, Portal 2 has managed to notch up a review split that’s 98.7% positive, standing above games like Terraria, Left 4 Dead, Vampire Survivors, and the first Portal (2007).
In December, a study found that Stardew Valley is the best game in the world when it comes to reducing stress levels. It beat games like Animal Crossing to the punch, securing a record that solidified its status as the ultimate cosy game.
