The early access window for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach has allowed users to grind the game and complete it before it launches globally today. This has meant that everything from birthday easter eggs to the most adorable screenshots have managed to make their way onto social media.
One note that eagle-eyed players have taken away from Death Stranding 2’s credits is a Nintendo namedrop that nobody really expected.
It makes sense, though.
How Did Nintendo Help With Death Stranding 2?
As the credits for Death Stranding 2 roll, most users will understandably opt to speed through or skip them entirely. It’s part and parcel of finishing a game, but perhaps the enormity of Death Stranding 2 promotes that sense of completion that has you just sitting back and recalling your journey as the words roll up your screen.
If you stay engaged enough to see the names and companies floating up before you, you might notice ‘Nintendo’ appearing in the credits for Death Stranding 2.
More specifically, you’ll see the name ‘Nintendo Pictures’, the title of a company that provided motion capture support to Kojima Productions during the development of Death Stranding 2.
First noticed by VGC, the link to Nintendo Pictures would almost have been missed if not for a renaming that took place in 2022 when the company, originally called Dynamo Pictures, was bought by the Japanese gaming titan.
Death Stranding 2 boasts a unique position in that, until now, only Nintendo titles served as the company’s sole focus – Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario RPG, and so on.
Before the acquisition in 2022, ‘Dynamo Pictures’ had a much more diverse portfolio.
Is this the first PlayStation exclusive game to feature Nintendo’s name in the credits? Let me know if you’ve found another reference like this on the Insider Gaming forum.
