Former Hytale Dev Says ‘Issues Were All Internal’

A former Hytale developer stated that Riot Games was not responsible for cancelling the development and that the “issues were all internal” to Hytale’s leadership.

For those wondering, Hypixel was created as a sandbox game with a procedurally generated world heavily inspired by Minecraft. However, a few days ago, it was revealed that Hytale had been cancelled, and the developers would begin the process of shutting down Hypixel Studios. Now, a former Hytale developer has provided more context on the situation.

Hytale Got Scrapped Because of New Internal Leadership

Spotted by GamesRadar+, the former Security and IT lead at Hypixel Studios, DevSlashNull, recently provided more information on Hytale’s cancellation on X (formerly Twitter). The developer first posted a cryptic message, asking, “What could possibly go wrong when you hire new leadership that thinks the original team is incompetent?” He answered it himself, stating, “The whole project ends up going in circles until it dies.”

The former Hytale developer added that the community should feel angry “at the mismanagement that stole the opportunity for Hytale to flourish.” When asked whether Riot was responsible for ruining Hytale, the developer replied that the League of Legends creator “was an absolute pleasure to work with, from people to leaders”. Riot understood “the power of empowering and giving folks agency”. The former developer concluded that Hytale’s “issues were all internal to Hytale’s leadership”.

Hytale Might Have Had a Working Version on the Legacy Engine

The former Hytale developer was also asked whether a working version was running on the Legacy engine at some point that may have satisfied the players. The dev replied that he thinks so, explaining that some of the best moments for him with the team came from “playtesting and running PvP tournaments internally on that engine.” The dev added that the version was “fun and had tons of potential.”
