Marvel Studios has pushed back the release date of Avengers: Doomsday from May 2026 to December 2026. The studio followed suit with Avengers: Secret Wars, issuing a delay of several months and forcing the flick back to December 2027. These movies have been dubbed some of the ‘biggest films ever made’, and they’re some of Marvel’s most ambitious projects to date.
Of course, jokes started surfacing that Marvel Studios doesn’t want to compete with Grand Theft Auto 6, which has been heralded as the biggest launch in entertainment history (according to Take-Two’s CEO, anyway). If Marvel Studios had kept to the original slate, it would have released Avengers: Doomsday mere weeks before the launch of GTA 6 in May 2026.
Not Really
Marvel Studios likely isn’t threatened by the launch of GTA 6, but who knows? The game has a chokehold over the wider industry, so why shouldn’t filmmakers be eyeing up the launch of the open-world epic with as much uncertainty as game developers and publishers?
Why would people want to go and see a movie that’ll arrive on streaming platforms after a few weeks when they could be neck-deep in what’s anticipated to be the biggest game launch in history?
The news regarding the delay of the Marvel Studios projects came from Deadline. It was regarded in the report that insiders made a reference to wanting ‘more time to execute on a gargantuan vision’ with both Doomsday and Secret Wars.
GTA 6 was recently dominating the news after eagle-eyed fans spotted what looks like a child in a screenshot. If accurate, it would be the first time that children have been featured in the Grand Theft Auto series, which raises a morality issue for players worldwide. How would Rockstar Games handle children in GTA?
