Minecraft continues to be one of the most popular games in the world, and with great success comes server stress, so expect there to be issues occasionally.
While single-player gamers may not encounter Minecraft issues all too often, those playing with Minecraft Realms will find themselves taken out at the knees if any server issues arise.
If you’re encountering issues with Minecraft Realms and want to know if it’s just you or if there’s a bigger issue at play, we’ve got all the details you need.
How to Check Minecraft Server Status

Unlike other games, Mojang does not have an official server status page for Minecraft and other games, so it can be harder to check whether an issue is on your end or with the server.
There are, however, other websites you can use, the biggest of which is Down Detector. This page shows a graph of issues reported in the past 24 hours, compared to the typical volume of reports at that time of day.
If Down Detector shows a big, red spike, it’s a solid indication that there is some kind of issue with the Minecraft servers, which would explain any issues you encounter accessing realms.
Another way to check for any issues with Minecraft Realms is to head to social media, with either X or Reddit often being the best bet, and see if other players are encountering problems.
Should there be no signs of issues, the best approach is to head to Minecraft’s official help center for Realms that explains regular errors that may occur and how to troubleshoot them.
Why do Minecraft Servers go Down?
The main reason for Minecraft servers to go down, often for extended periods, is to issue a new patch or update. Minecraft may not have the regular seasonal cycle of content like many live-service games, but there are big updates planned.
Not all downtime is planned, however, and the Minecraft servers may go down due to bugs. In these cases, downtime can be longer while the issue is fixed.
Depending on your platform of choice for Minecraft, you may encounter issues that aren’t directly tied to the game. For example, if you play on Xbox and there’s an issue with Xbox Live, Minecraft will be affected too.
Fortunately, most of the time when a problem occurs with the Minecraft servers, they’re fixed pretty swiftly, so you should be back in your Realm in no time.
