Recently, Battlestate Games published a new Community Digest document on social media. This update sheet broke down the imminent future of Escape from Tarkov, including information around the impending full release of the game into a 1.0 state.
It was noted again that ‘PvE will require a wipe’, which is a line that is actively confusing Escape from Tarkov gamers. One of the unique selling points of PvE is that the mode doesn’t need a wipe, and players can just live their lives without worrying about losing their fortune and stash stocked with weapons and ammunition.
What’s the truth of the matter? I reached out to BSG to find out.
To Wipe or Not to Wipe?
In the recent document published by Battlestate Games, it reads:
- Before the full release, 4 major updates will be released.
- Story-based task chains, complete with cutscenes and unique content (PvE will require a wipe)
- Post-release support and DLC
This has confused players, as the running belief was that the PvE platform would never need to wipe.
I reached out to Battlestate Games to get a definitive answer, and here’s what I have.
If you want to progress through the fully optional questline that assumedly facilitates a final escape from Tarkov and you’re playing on the PvE platform, you will need to wipe your account and face a full reset.
I asked this question:
Will it be possible to update for all other features included with 1.0 (and the four major events beforehand) without needing to wipe PvE?
Battlestate Games advised me that, yes, you will be able to access all other content without wiping your PvE profile.
The way it was worded by Battlestate Games confirms that you will need to wipe before being able to access the quest line set up for the Escape from Tarkov 1.0 release.
By the time Escape from Tarkov hits that point, some PvE players will have spent more than a year building up their profile. I have the most valuable stash and most progress I’ve secured in my five years of playing on the PvE platform, and I don’t know that I’d be too quick to wave goodbye to it.
Will you wipe your PvE profile or will you just try to complete whatever the final quest line is on the PvP build? Let me know in the comments or on the Insider Gaming forum.

Absolutely not, just another reason to have dropped this game. (Other than Nikita leaving in some of the worst bugs I’ve had the displeasure of dealing with, in the game)
