The Elder Scrolls franchise is beloved by modders far and wide. On platforms like Nexus Mods, it’s the number one series you’ll see at the top of the charts, with Skyrim taking pole position. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is never far behind, of course.
Now that Bethesda Game Studios has unveiled The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, all talk has turned to whether mods will work on the revitalised title. What will happen to your mods and unofficial patches, and updates now that Oblivion Remastered is here?
Let’s find out.
Will Mods Work on Oblivion Remastered?
Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed that mods are not officially supported for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The game, which represents a mix of the old Gambryo engine and new Unreal 5 visuals, presents a sticking point for modders everywhere. It’s unlikely that existing mods will work without major tweaks, which could render all mods created until now null and void.
That’s two decades of mods that could be unavailable on Oblivion Remastered.
Historically, we’ve seen a split on mod repository platforms. For instance, Skyrim and Skyrim Special Edition are separate categories on Nexus Mods. This could be how the modding ecosystem will work for Oblivion Remastered.
Top Oblivion Mods
The all-time most popular Oblivion mods on Nexus Mods are mostly ancient. The top mod was released in July 2008 and introduces a cleaner texture pack to the game. Elsewhere, you’ve got character model overhauls, a mod management tool, and the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.
The most important mods that will likely surface (eventually) for Oblivion Remastered should be the likes of:
- Unofficial Oblivion Remastered Patch
- Oblivion Remastered Script Extender
- Oblivion Remastered Mod Manager
- Unofficial Oblivion Remastered DLC Patch
- Natural Environments
- Oblivion Remastered Graphics Extender
But that’s just my conjecture based on what’s popular for Oblivion.
