5 Worst Rated Games of 2023

With every good release within the video game world comes a terrible one. While 2023 had some amazing games released, such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and more, it also had some pretty bad releases.

Here are the five worst-rated video games that were released in 2023.

Worst Rated Video Games of 2023

New video games are released every single year. Some of them are good, and some of them are quite awful. While a lot of these ratings are subjective, it still goes with the majority rule that these are the worst games of 2023, according to Metacritic.

Here are the worst games of 2023.

5. Xuan-Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains

Metascore: 52

The RPG turn-based combat-style game, Xuan-Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains, had hope behind its release. The game comes from a franchise that has been releasing games since the 1990s, and many thought a new release was exactly what they needed. Sadly, the game flopped immediately, making it one of the worst-rated games of 2023.

4. Loop8: Summer of Gods

Metascore: 49

Released in June 2023, Loop8: Summer of Gods had a lot of gamers excited due to its beautiful landscape. The towns and mountains are based on rural Japanese towns, giving people that special feeling when roaming through the map of this game. Unfortunately, though, the game absolutely flopped and was highly criticized by gamers and critics.

3. Testament: The Order of High-Human

Metascore: 41

When Testament: The Order of High-Human was announced, a lot of people were hoping the game would be another type of epic adventure. Sadly, the game did not meet everyone’s expectations. While the user ratings may have been mixed, the critic ratings were abnormally low for a game’s release, making it one of the worst-rated games of 2023.

2. The Lord of the Rings – Gollum

Metascore: 34

The Lord of the Rings – Gollum was a disaster from the beginning. The second a first look at the game was released, everyone was critiquing how awful the graphics looked. And no, the developers didn’t make like Sonic and listen to the fans. The game not only has a terrible Metacritic score, but a user score of 1.2, which is incredibly low.

1. Greyhill Incident

Metascore: 38

An alien horror game; what could go wrong? Well, apparently quite a bit. Greyhill Incident had horror enthusiasts pumped upon its announcement. Very few horror games dwell into the realm of extra-terrestrials, making this game one of a kind. Unfortunately, the game flopped. It may have had a higher Metascore than Gollum, but its user score was even lower than the hairless Smeagul’s game.

Greyhill Incident is Metacritic’s lowest-rated game of 2023.
