Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom DLC Spotted on Official Website

It should be no surprise, but it looks like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be getting DLC.

Nintendo has yet to officially announce whether the highly anticipated sequel to Breath of the Wild will receive any downloadable content, but the game’s official website certainly seems to indicate so.

Included in the small text at the bottom of the Tears of the Kingdom website is the message: “Full version of game required to use DLC. Sold separately.”

No details about DLC plans are included, which is no real surprise given how much Nintendo has kept hidden about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ahead of the game’s release date.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild received featured a paid Expansion Pass which saw new content added in two waves following the release of the game. The latter pack introduced new story content in the Champion’s Ballad DLC, but the Expansion Pass also brought several extra systems such as the adventure-tracking Hero’s Path, combat-centric Master Trials, and a motorbike vehicle for Link to ride.

Subsequent major Nintendo releases have all followed the same pattern, including waves of DLC content which arrive in several stages over the course of the year following the game’s release.

More recent games such as Splatoon 3 and Fire Emblem Engage have included a lot more than two waves. It seems highly likely that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, easily one of the Switch’s most anticipated games, will follow suit.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will release for Nintendo Switch on May 12th.
