Wolverine Creative Director Leaves To Join Xbox’s Perfect Dark

The creative director of Marvel’s Wolverine has reportedly left the game to work for Xbox and its Perfect Dark reboot.

According to Stephen Totilo’s Game File, Brian Horton left Insomniac over the summer. He is now the creative director on Perfect Dark, which is being developed by The Initiative.

An Xbox representative told Game File that Horton will be “bringing his wealth of experience to the upcoming reboot of the classic secret agent series”.

Totilo’s report states that Horton left Insomniac and Wolverine as part of creative changes around the game. Another move made was that Cameron Christian is no longer game director on Wolverine. Instead, he moves to a different, currently unknown, role within the studio.

Taking over as Wolverine’s game director and creative director are Mike Daly and Marcus Smith, respectively. The two were the leads on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Insider Gaming reached out to Sony for comment on the changes, but no response was received.

Perfect Dark has seen a number of reported issues with development over the years. However, this summer saw a new look at the game released during Xbox’s Summer Showcase.

Regarding Wolverine, the last look fans received came via the major Insomniac leak from 2023. The game was first announced in 2021, but Insomniac may be “gearing up” to showcase more of the game in the near future.

As far as a release date for Perfect Dark or Wolverine, none have been officially announced. Rumors suggest that Wolverine could release sometime in 2025.

  • Didn’t another former Insomniac employee leave Initiative to go back to Insomniac? Also how does this effect both games? Wolverine I thought was set for 2026 and Perfect Dark I was assuming it would come late in the generation? Isn’t Eidos handling Perfect Dark do they need this guy?

  • PlayStation has no games. I heard Yotei is getting delayed too and has problems now this. That L is getting bigger right now and DS2 is adding to the wound! Marathon and Fair Games seem like more Concord. It’s weird Marathon was supposed to be out by now and still no gameplay and Fair Games was revealed before both why isn’t that out yet or gameplay shown?

  • Wolverine is probably cancelled at this point if decisions are still being made at this late a point in time. Jim Ryan and Herman Hulst ruined PlayStation

  • Post Spider-Man 2 and superhero games are in a rough place. This game might be in trouble, no update on the Monolith Wonder Woman game, no reveal of WB Montreal’s DC game or the other DC project Monolith is making, EA’s Iron Man game still hasn’t shown up despite set for 2025 release, the 1940 Marvel game looks boring, Hundred Star is supposed to be making a superhero game for Xbox but no word on what it is, and Injustice 3 is never happening because Ed Boon hates DC almost forgot the Blade game is still far away too so really nothing to look forward too sad. I wish Microsoft would remake Prototype and get some licenses for the Activision teams to work on Treyarch, Beenox, High Moon, Radical, they all use to make big super hero games even let Infinity Ward try get Spawn and The Darkness get the DC licenses.

  • Venom was set for 2025 and they still haven’t shown that game. PlayStation is in worse shape than you think. Kojima says they’re sticking to 2025 for Death Stranding 2 but the game is only halfway done and now this with Wolverine still having creative changes this late? Rumors for Ghost Of Yotei are also really bad with reports being that it was retooled into this and was originally supposed to be Tsushima 2 but they changed it last minute and it’s still not ready and no where near ready for 2025 if anything maybe 2027 or 2028 and will be smaller in scale than Tsushima and not a big graphical leap looking like a PS4 game. I’m curious do studio gets get fired before the executives I can see the heads of studios get fired for financial loses. Concord’s effect still isn’t done more layoffs and closures on the way. Returnal wasn’t a hit Housemarque might get shut down and Astro Bot didn’t set the world on fire Team Asobi will be let go. Haven Studios might want to worry as well.
