The Watch Dogs movie has officially begun filming, but there’s currently no release date yet.
The announcement came via the Ubisoft X (formerly Twitter) page, where the publisher said, “Lights_Camera_Action.exe.” alongside posting an image of a clapperboard from the set.
Unfortunately, not much can be gathered from the image itself, as it appears to be the production team rather than any cast members. However, we know that Tom Blyth and Sophie Wilde are set to star in the movie in some capacity.
Ubisoft’s head of content Margaret Boykin, New Regency CEO Yariv Milchan, and company president of motion pictures Natalie Lehmann are producers of the movie.
The move to start production will undoubtedly start discussions on whether or not a new Watch Dogs game is in the works. Unfortunately, despite the series’ success, we’ve not been able to verify if a new game has been greenlit. The first and second games accumulated 20 million units sold combined.
The last game in the series was Watch Dogs: Legion, which was released in 2020 by Ubisoft Toronto. The game received mixed reviews from critics.
