In a new post on Twitter/X today, Ubisoft Toronto confirmed that it is joining the development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
The team says that they will bring the studio’s “creativity, expertise, and updated tech” as they join the Ubisoft Montreal devs.
This marks a major step forward for development on the game. Ubisoft confirmed the game years ago, and development appeared to face a series of setbacks. In 2022, it was announced the game would move from Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai to Montreal.
Last April, Insider Gaming reported exclusive details about the anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. That includes footage sent to Insider Gaming, which suggests that the release is likely far off.
However, now that Ubisoft Toronto is joining development, it’s unclear if the added support could hasten the potential release window.
Fans are also concerned about Ubisoft Toronto appearing to shift away from a Splinter Cell remake. However, the team recently seemed prepared to share news about Splinter Cell.
Combined with Ubisoft Toronto’s decision to move towards Prince of Persia, this may further imply that a major Splinter Cell remake could be coming soon. However, Ubisoft Toronto has not officially confirmed any details about the Splinter Cell remake just yet.
Most recently, Prince of Persia fans were able to try out the Early Access version of The Rogue Prince of Persia when it launched on May 27.
