Troy Baker Said He Isn’t Voicing Jason in GTA 6

When the GTA 6 trailer was released in December 2023, one of the first things that fans did was go on a campaign to track down the voice actors for the main characters. It was worked out with a fairly decent level of accuracy who voices Lucia, the most revealed character so far, but Jason’s voice actor is still a complete mystery. That didn’t stop many players from believing that Troy Baker, a legendary voice actor with some of the most important credits in gaming, had secured the role of Jason in GTA 6.

‘He Says One Word!’

During a recent video interview, Troy Baker, who is best known for voicing Joel in The Last of Us (among many other credits) cleared up the claims that he voices Jason in GTA 6. In the record-breaking trailer that dropped in December, ‘Jason’ utters a single word, making it almost impossible to determine who voices him, but plenty of people jumped on the assumption bandwagon that labelled Troy Baker as Jason in GTA 6.

In the interview, Baker said:

He says one word! He says ‘trust’. That right there is a lesson in perception – people think and they just automatically assume. I want that guy, whoever it is, to credit for his work because I’m sure it’s going to be great.

He then went on to talk about the sheer level of work that goes into acting for Rockstar Games. It’s no big secret that the likes of Grand Theft Auto have staggering scripts that take months – if not years – to work through, so being signed on to play a main character in a Grand Theft Auto game is something monumental.

When Baker said the word ‘trust’ in the interview, he said it with a higher pitch, making it impossible to compare with the GTA 6 trailer and the scene where Jason says the same name. Perhaps die-hard fans can down-pitch it and run some kind of comparison to figure out if Troy Baker is being honest.

But spoiler alert: he’s almost definitely being honest.
