A new Tomb Raider live-action show is coming to Amazon Prime Video. The news comes 15 months after it was reported that Amazon had purchased the rights to the IP for $600 million.
The new series will see Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Fleabag write and executive produce. Crystal Dynamics and Jenny Robbins will also executive produce the show.
“If I could tell my teenage self that this was happening, I think she’d explode,” Waller-Bridge said. “Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
“I’m so happy to announce that we have ordered the epic, globetrotting series Tomb Raider from the incredibly gifted Emmy-award winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge and the team at Crystal Dynamics,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said. “Fans and newcomers can look forward to exhilarating adventures that honor the legacy of this iconic character.”
There currently is no time table for the series’ debut. When it releases, however, it will premiere exclusively on Prime Video. It’s also part of Amazon MGM Studios and dj2’s first-look deal that will bring more Tomb Raider stories to both film and streaming.
