The PS5 Pro Will Cost $200 More Than Base Console

Sony announced the PlayStation 5 (PS5) Pro on Tuesday, and with it came the revelation that the price of the console will be $200 more than the base PS5.

If you want to buy a PS5 Pro, it’s going to cost you $699.99/£699.99. The original base PS5 costs $499.99/£479.99, and that includes a disc drive for the system. The digital-only base PS5 retails for just $449.99/£389.99

Should you still want a disc drive for physical media, you’ll have to spend another $80/£99.99 for the attachable disc drive. That’ll put the price of a PS5 Pro up near $800 and well over £800.

So, in some cases it’ll cost $200/£200 more whereas others could be looking at $350/£350 more.

As far as what you’ll get for the expensive console, you get the PS5 Pro system, a DualSense controller, and a copy of the four-year-old game Astro’s Playroom. Inside the console comes a 45% more powerful GPU, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling, and more advanced ray tracing. You can check out more details on the full specs of the PS5 Pro, right here.

The PS5 Pro launches on November 7, 2024. Preorders open later this month.

  • No thank you the ps5 has no big library there’s no reason to upgrade and $700 in this economy not happening and the console audience is not paying that for no disc drive

  • Having no games makes this look even worse. No disc drive, no stand all for $700 just buy a PC. The exclusives this gen have been awful compared to last gen Jim Ryan and the current people ruined PlayStation with their lack of understanding he had no idea about this industry or the audience. This could be the end of Sony previously they wanted to avoid $600 after PS3 now they beat that this is going to be catastrophic because I 100% don’t see Japan buying this and don’t see most normal people buying this. Let’s not forget you need a wifi connection for a disc drive to work on current PS5’s why buy this console? Buy a PC, buy a Switch, buy a Steam Deck or other handheld PC.

  • Nintendo thank you for not doing this glad you didn’t make a Switch Pro and we get Switch 2 instead. Glad we don’t have another “new” 3DS thing again. Take that L Sony when you guys suck you go all in on it. Shareholders be prepared to lose money not just PS but movies and shows too.

  • They should have announced this at a State Of Play instead it would have softened the blow albeit barely. Should have had a State Of Play instead.

  • Sony should also raise prices of games to $80-100 it would help cover development costs and led to a safer and better work environment for devs. If Sony does it then more can follow these employees have been suffering for the longest white
