Super Mario Bros Wonder Announced By Nintendo

During the Nintendo Direct event on Wednesday, the company announced a brand new 2D Mario game for the Nintendo Switch called Super Mario Bros Wonder.

The first original 2D Mario side-scrolling game in over 10 years — New Super Maio Bros U in 2012 –, Super Mario Bros Wonder launch on October 20.

The game is set around a new “Wonder Flower” which transforms each stage within the game. One such example from the trailer sees the Wonder Flower cause the pipes to move up and down, changing the terrain.

In addition, the trailer showed a new elephant fruit that turned Mario into an elephant. The game features Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, and Yoshi as playable characters.

“Super Mario Bros Wonder, the next evolution of 2D side-scrolling Super Mario Bros. games is headed to Nintendo Switch,” Nintendo’s description says. “When you touch a Wonder Flower in the game, the wonders of the world unlock – pipes could come alive, hordes of enemies may appear, characters might change their looks, for example – transforming the gameplay in unpredictable ways. Excitement and different surprises await in each course.”

“There’s never been a better time to be a fan of Mario, and we love being able to provide new and dedicated players alike with experiences that invite a sense of wonder,” said Devon Pritchard, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Communications.
