A new trademark has been filed by FireFly Studios named Stronghold: The Dark Ages, which could suggest it will be the next name for the series’ next installment.
The trademark was first spotted by Respawn First, which was filed on April 8th, 2024, and is currently in the ‘”examination” stage.
If you thought ‘The Dark Ages’ sounded familiar, well, you’re right, as last week Insider Gaming exclusively reported that the next Doom game would be called ‘Doom: The Dark Ages.’ Our reporting (and the impending reveal of the next Doom game) suggests that the title is likely to be rejected.
Nonetheless, the filing does tell us that the next Stronghold game is almost certainly to be set in the ‘Dark Ages’, which began after the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
The next Stronghold game would mark FireFly Studios’ first major new release following the studios’ acquisition by Devolver Digital in 2021. Currently, FireFly Studios is focused on post-launch content of Stronghold: Definitive Edition, which was released in November 2023 and has received ‘Very Positive’ reviews on Steam based on 6400 reviews at the time of writing.
