It’s been a long and rocky road for Quantic Dream these past couple of years and now the VP of Marketing, Lisa Pendse, has said that Star Wars Eclipse is still in development but is “simmering”.
During a recent interview with IGN at Tokyo Game Show 2023 in Japan, Pendse said, “Can I say it still exists? Because it exists,” she continued, “It’s just not ready. It’s simmering.”
Insider Gaming reported earlier this year that Star Wars Eclipse was targeting a 2026 release date, but was struggling to find to hire staff following allegations of workplace issues, including sexual harassment, crunch, and toxic work culture. Even excluding the issues of hiring staff, it’s understood that the scope of the game was significantly beyond Quantic Dream’s capabilities and the team has been struggling with its engine since day one.
Star Wars Eclipse is described as, “a new action-adventure, multiple-character branching narrative game set in the High Republic era of the iconic Star Wars™ galaxy, now early in development.” In late 2022, Sacred Symbols leaked plot details of Eclipse that Insider Gaming could independently verify.
So will Star Wars Eclipse ever be released? We think so, but we think adding a couple more years to the 2026 release date is probably a good idea.
