When playing through Marvel’s Spider-Man or Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the scale of New York City that Insomniac Games captured was impressive. But as the old saying goes, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
According to a Famitsu interview with creative director Bryan Intihar, the map in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be even bigger.
“We’ve added Queens and Brooklyn to the map, which makes it roughly twice the size of our previous work,” he said. “These two neighborhoods are a bit smaller and more residential, so they have a different charm than Manhattan. We have prepared some unexpected situations that we have never seen before, such as battles using the river that runs between the neighborhoods, so please look forward to them.”
Despite the size of the game’s new map, the abilities of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales will allow players to still travel New York City at great speeds. According to Intihar, the larger map and new abilities are all a part of making Spider-Man 2 feel like more than just a sequel.
“We want you to feel that this is not just a sequel, but a new experience for two heroes,” he said. “It also depicts the personal conflicts of Peter and Miles, so I hope you enjoy the parallel but common story.”
What do you think about Spider-Man 2 featuring a larger map? Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches later this year exclusively on PlayStation 5.
