On a recent episode of Game Mess Mornings, Jeff Grubb claimed that Sony could be planning a brand-new installment in the Astro Bot series to release in 2024.
This is only speculation, and Sony has not confirmed anything officially yet. However, Grubb states that “I’ve heard maybe Astro does happen this year”.
While there have been rumors that Sony would not release any major titles for a while, Astro Bot is a relatively small IP. It has also been a while since the latest game released.
Fans will likely recognize the Astro Bot IP for games like 2018’s Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro’s Playroom.
Both of them earned high ratings, and still have almost universal acclaim between critics and players. They are brilliant platformers with lots of charm, and staples of the console.
The characters and gameplay literally reference PlayStation consoles and DualSense controllers. These meta references add a lot of personality and life to the platform. There are even nods to other games in Playroom, such as Resident Evil.
In Astro Bot Rescue Mission, players need to search for Astro’s crew and rescue them. With Astro’s Playroom, players explore four different worlds.
There is plenty of room for new content, especially if the PlayStation platform itself continues to evolve. As of this week, Sony has reportedly shipped 54.8 million consoles worldwide.
Thanks to new financial reports, fans also learned that the PlayStation Networks has more users than ever before. So, a new Astro Bot game is absolutely overdue.
For now, fans can check out some of the 13 new games coming to the PlayStation Plus library this month. The list includes AAA games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Nobody cares about Astro. They should cancel it.
