It has just been revealed that legendary streamers, Shroud and Sacriel, have partnered with British developer, Splash Damage, to create an AAA open-world survival game that they hope will be the ‘best survival game ever’.
This all-new IP will be built from the ground up by Splash Damage, with Sacriel and Shroud coming on board as Executive Creators. In the past, Splash Damage has worked on the likes of Doom 3, Brink, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and the multiplayer portions of Gears of War 4 and Gears 5.
Now, it’ll attempt to break into the survival shooter genre alongside two of the world’s biggest streamers.
Splash Damage Presents: Project Astrid
Between both YouTube and Twitch, Shroud and Sacriel boast a combined following of more than eighteen million users. There’s a serious legacy presence in Shroud, currently one of the most-followed streamers on Twitch and an accomplished esports player specialising in CSGO and VALORANT.
At the moment, all we know about Project Astrid is that it’ll be an open-world survival game – with advanced shooter elements – and right now, it’s in pre-production. That means that Splash Damage – and anybody else involved – will be busy storyboarding the game, coming up with concepts, characters, settings, and the basis of any story elements that may be involved.
We can safely assume that it’ll be a multiplayer-focused title, as that’s really where survival shooters shine. For years, Splash Damage has been neck-deep in players-vs-player multiplayer titles, so this won’t be too far a step away from what the studio is used to, and with this being a brand-new IP, the firm can flex its imaginative power and create something truly unique.
Shroud spoke highly of the partnership, stressing his excitement:
This project means everything to me. Chris (Sacriel) and I have refined a vision for what’s next in the survival genre and with Splash Damage we’re setting out to build it. We want to build the best survival game ever, and with Sacriel’s brain and Splash Damage’s team, I know we can do it.
When it comes to challenging survival-based games, Shroud and Sacriel are no strangers to the likes of DayZ, Rust, PUBG, and Escape From Tarkov, and these are the kinds of titles that may have inspired the desire to create a fresh survival shooter experience.
This is definitely a project to keep a close eye on.
