Xbox has announced that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 isn’t going to have a physical release, rather the company and developer Ninja Theory have opted for a digital-only launch.
The reveal came via a blog on the Xbox Wire after the Xbox Developer Direct on Thursday.
“Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II will be a game crafted from the heart – a game similar in length to the first Hellblade, with a focused narrative, and sold digital-only at a price of $49.99 USD,” Ninja Theory studio head Dom Matthews said.
The $50 price of the game, Matthews said, is reflective of the shorter length of the game’s story compared to other like titles. It was mentioned that the game will be similar in length to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, which should put it around nine hours to complete everything in the game.
As far as it being a digital only launch, the original game was also digital only before a physical copy was released a year later
The release of Hellblade 2 being digital only comes at a time when players are more concerned about game ownership than ever before. Recently, Ubisoft’s Director of Subscriptions, Philippe Tremblay, said players need to “get comfortable” not owning their games anymore.
