As spotted by Eurogamer, Sega has issued a press release via its Japanese site confirming that it reached a settlement against a social media user who harassed an employee.
Loosely translated, the press release explains the individual “made excessive slanderous and insulting comments” against one Sega employee for a long time.
Sega continues that “the subject will pay damages to our employee, delete the slanderous and insulting comments, and refrain from such actions in the future.” It is currently unclear just how extensive the payments are.
Following the settlement, Sega reinforces that “we will continue to take appropriate action based on our Customer Harassment Policy when we judge any behavior to be malicious.” Sega seems prepared to take further legal action when necessary against social media harassment.
Last March, workers at Sega of America became the first staff of a major gaming company to ratify a union contract. It spans a variety of offices, and it covers approximately 150 full-time and temporary employees.
However, that same week, Sega also revealed plans to lay off hundreds of employees across a wide range of studios. Jurgen Post of Sega said in an email that “we need to respond to the changing economic landscape.”
On the content side, gamers are looking forward to the new Crazy Taxi, which Sega recently revealed will be an open world multiplayer title.
